Mendix support & application portfolio planning

Mendix support and application portfolio planning

Background of the cooperation

Budapesti Szabadkikötő Logisztikai Zrt. (Budapest Freeport) is a key player in Hungarian inland waterway and intermodal logistics. The cooperation between BlackBelt and BSZL started in November 2025, initially to support the company's existing Mendix application.

The joint work later went beyond the day-to-day operation of the application: by the summer of 2026, the focus also included how BSZL could use the Mendix platform more consciously in the digitalisation developments of the coming years.

The challenge

BSZL supports several business-critical functions – including self-billing, parcel locker management and margin calculation – with a Mendix-based application. The stable operation of the system required predictable availability, clear response times and fast error handling. A longer-term question also arose: in which business areas is it worth developing further Mendix applications, and in what order should these projects be launched?

Solution

As the first step of the cooperation, BlackBelt designed an SLA-based support scheme for the existing application. The service includes eight-hour availability on working days, response and resolution times of 4–40 hours adjusted to the severity of the issue, proactive operations and a predefined monthly support budget.

The next step was the conscious planning of the Mendix application portfolio. To support this, BlackBelt put together an executive workshop in which the participants jointly map the business processes that can be digitalised and the possible application ideas.

During the workshop, each initiative is evaluated on three main criteria:

what business value it can create; how much effort it is expected to require; how easy it is to implement from a technological and organisational point of view.

The result of the process is BSZL's first Mendix application roadmap, which makes the development opportunities more transparent and helps set the priorities for the coming period.

Results

SLA-based support framework for BSZL's business-critical Mendix functions, with a response within four hours for the most urgent issues. More predictable application operations and a clearer error-handling process. A workshop methodology that helps rank development ideas by business value and feasibility. The foundation of a Mendix roadmap supporting medium- and long-term digitalisation decisions.

From stable operations to conscious development

The cooperation established with BSZL shows well how day-to-day application support can gradually be expanded into a strategic technology partnership. The first step was to create the secure and predictable operation of the existing system. The next phase can build on this: jointly identifying and ranking the development opportunities that can bring the most business value to BSZL.
