Why is low-code development worthwhile? Is this truly measurable?
In a recent article, Arjo van Oosten, Head of Digital Execution at Mendix presented a calculation model that can be used to measure the business value of a low-code platform for corporate purposes.
If the value of low-code is closely tied to the value of the solutions that it is used to create (i.e., if we can create more solutions at a faster rate), then the business value will be generated sooner. Should this reasoning be acceptable, how can it be quantified? According to the author, the following three factors should be considered:
(1) Time-to-Market: Shorter development time –> Getting to the market sooner –> Acquiring new clients and deals sooner;
(2) App Velocity: more solutions can be created within a given period of time, which will start bearing fruit as shown above;
(3) IT Productivity: low-code helps fix obsolete code and the replacement of faulty software. Low-coding, which is based on reusable components, collaboration and ease of integration, also has lower CapEx and OpEx requirements.
